How it works

Sunwell is a highly respected Japanese textile converter with a heritage dating back to 1966. Headquartered in Osaka, the company has earned a strong reputation within the Japanese apparel industry for exceptional fabric quality, reliability, and design expertise.

Sunwell blends traditional Japanese craftsmanship with forward‑thinking innovation. All fabrics are produced under stringent quality control systems, ensuring consistency, performance, and longevity across every collection.

What truly sets Sunwell apart is its extensive in‑house fabric range and ability to support small minimum orders with fast turnaround times. With thousands of fabric qualities and tens of thousands of colour variations held in running stock, Sunwell enables designers to work with exceptional flexibility without compromising on quality.

Sunwell is also known for its trend‑driven approach, offering a wide selection of natural fibres, functional fabrics, and contemporary textiles that reflect global fashion movements. This balance of deep technical expertise, dependable production, and design‑focused innovation makes Sunwell a trusted partner for brands seeking premium Japanese fabrics that combine practicality with style.

Japanese Legacy Dyeing

REN

Produced in Bishu, Japan, the Ren collection uses the Wool Dyeing Method, a specialised finishing process that gives the fabrics their distinctive appearance and handle.

Unlike conventional production where fabrics are held under tension throughout finishing, Ren qualities are allowed to move naturally through the mill with very little tension applied. The fabric hangs loosely through the rollers before being tumbled dried at the end of production.

This slower, gentler process creates the collection's characteristic surface texture and subtle irregularity. Many of the qualities are cotton rich, and the low tension finishing produces a beautifully mottled effect that gives the fabrics depth and movement.

It is a fascinating example of the craftsmanship and technical expertise behind the Sunwell collections, where the finishing process is just as important as the yarns themselves.
